Kampen

Kampen is a city in the Netherlands. It is located in the province of Overijssel and is the capital of the municipality of Kampen.

Kampen has a population of about 37,500. The city was founded in the 8th century and has been a centre of commerce and trade ever since while largely located on an island. This city is also known as "The Rotterdam of the Middle Ages" as Kampen was one of the largest trade cities along the trade routes of the Zuiderzee and the Rijn. Having a large fleet they imported Portuguese salt past Denmark to the eastern sea. Kampen is still home to several historical structures such as the Koornmarktspoort and the Bovenkerk that are worth visiting.
