Mount Tasman

Mount Tasman

The second highest mountain of New Zealand

Mount Tasman is the second largest mountain in New Zealand, its highest peak is a whopping 3497 metres. Mount Tasman is located just four kilometres north of its larger sibling, Mout Cook. And right on the border of Mount Cook National Park and Westland Tai Poutini National Park.

The Maori name for the mountain is Horo Koau, which translates to swallow shag (which is a local bird). Referring to the swelling of the bird's neck when it swallows.

Mount Tasman was first ascended by Edward FitzGerald in 1895
